Flash Festival 2019 – July

Performances 5, 6 and 7 July

The FLASH Festival is on again in July.

It is a true local festival. 5 - 15 minute plays - written and presented by local artists.

There are 8 plays this year. Four performances only over one weekend in July.

Here is a synopsis of each play with the writer, director and the cast:

Audience Participation by Andrew Thomson

Directed by Scott Goodacre

Jono and Brian are finally about to hit centre stage for the first time. But this is no ordinary performance, so can they pull it off? All it takes to affect their score is one audience member who can't help but want to participate.

Black Friday by Penny Dilworth

Directed by Michael Sheather.

A young couple describe their experience in a recent bushfire.

Firecrotch by Brooke Hemphill

Directed by Gordon Crawford.

She was having a bad week and looking to let off some steam but then things got hot and heavy in ways no one could have predicted.

Just Passing Through by Sally Bartley

Directed by Jenna Arnold.

Its training day in the Stokeroom, but the unexpected arrival of young Nettie sees the apprentice stoker Chuck thrown off course and causes his boss Sam to rethink the program. But the question is will she stay or is she just passing through.

Last Days Pompeii by John Fraser

Directed by Phil Moore.

Cerini suspects Matt lit the fires that ravaged the local area, and he’s not the only one. Will he be executioner or saviour?

So Fire Me by Rowan Cowley

Directed by Brooke Hemphill.

Ben is fed up by his job and excessive workload. Driven to the brink of madness while stuck in a seemingly never-ending boardroom meeting, he decides to take matters into his own hands as his colleagues look on.

Scandinavian Timber by Aidan Cuddington

Directed by Vicki Sidoti.

Paul is a young man who has some strange views on life and women. Anna is a complicated woman with complicated and modern views on life and men. Paul’s hidden twist could be considered “somewhat criminal” but he doesn’t see it like that.

The Firing by Greg Buist

Directed by Nicky Prescott.

A play about youth and experience. A teapot (Pot) and a blob of clay (Clay) compare the merits of their existences. At the start of the play it is Clay who is full of life, bursting with enthusiasm about the future and scornful of the boring set-in-his/her-way existence of Pot. By the end of the play, Clay has a greater appreciation for Pot, experiences some self-doubt and is left to ponder what the future might have in store.
