About the play
The Perfect Murder is a fast-paced mystery thriller based on a novel by master of the genre Jeffrey Archer.
Adapted for the stage by Hugh Janes, the play is set in England and centres around the murder of a young woman.
Act I sees a split stage with action alternating between the office of the policemen investigating the murder and the home of a middle-aged couple, John and Elizabeth Hoskins.
As the drama unfolds, it becomes clear that John is somehow involved in the grisly crime.
Did he commit it? Elizabeth is determined to keep John out of prison, even if it means that an innocent man will be punished for the crime.
As the fast-paced action continues to alternate between the two settings, audiences are bombarded with clues as they try to decide for themselves just who did murder Carla Moorland.
Act II sees the police office transform into a courtroom as the murder trial proceeds.
Who has been charged? Do the police have the right man? Audiences will be on the edge of their seats until the final denouement – with a final plot twist guaranteed to leave them gobsmacked.
The play features multiple multi-layered characters and requires a cast of both men and women of varied ages.
Some of the roles scripted as males may be switched to females, dependent upon the outcome of auditions.
Every role is rich in characterisation and adds something vital to the overall plot.
With the use of clever staging, lighting and music, my plan is to deliver a pacy, atmospheric production which will have audiences guessing until the very end.
