AUDITION Tuesday 8th July 2025 at 7:00 for 7:30 pm
Grand Horizons
by Bess Wohl
Directed Karen Rowe
The kids are not alright . . . cue the family hijinks and hysteria.
It’s out with the old and in with the new (sort of). Over a quiet meal for two, Bill and Nancy serenely decide to divorce after fifty years of marriage. While Nancy feels liberated and Bill seems unfazed, their adult sons Brian and Ben don’t exactly take it well.
As the “kids” descend on the Grand Horizons senior living community to mediate, everything they thought they knew about their parents comes crashing down. Bess Wohl’s Tony-nominated comedy is a hilarious, heartbreaking commentary on marriage, family, and the wisdom that comes with age—or not.
Bursting with all the joy and pathos of everyday life, Grand Horizons is theatre at its most enjoyable and familiar.
A comedy set in modern times. It is the story of a couple who have been married for fifty years deciding they want a divorce.
But the kids aren’t happy about it. You will see how this decision affects the couple, as well as their family. There’s lots of jokes, and many emotional moments.
Bill is a retired pharmacist and seems to live a quiet life. He enjoys jokes and dreams of being a stand-up comedian. Although he is married to Nancy, Bill is having an affair with Carla.
In an hilarious opening scene Nancy at the start of the play, she asks for a divorce. She collects clothes for refugees and is constantly worried about time.
Ben is their eldest son. He spends a lot of his time working or caring about work. He is married to Jess, and they have a child on the way. She works as a therapist and is pregnant. She applies some of her therapy techniques (or tries to) to help Bill and Nancy with their relationship.
Brian is the younger son, teaches theatre in high school and is very dramatic. He is currently directing a version of the play THE CRUCIBLE. He is proud that he is giving 200 children at his school a chance to act in the play.
Tommy is a man that Brian brings home from the club.
Carla is the woman that Bill is seeing on the side. She tries to be a help after Bill’s accident.
